icon Marine Corps 1955-1965

The Marine Corps of 2020 is staring down drastic changes within the direction of the National Defense Strategy and Force Design towards a new “great power competition” and true “peer adversaries.” The Marine Corps Gazette has collected articles from the “last time” the Corps (and the nation) were focused in this way, from 1955 to 1965 – a “pure cold war” post-Korea, pre-Vietnam escalation era- that dealt with containment strategy, the USSR, China, nuclear war, and the Corps’ changing role on the world stage.
