CHANGEMAKER

The Changemaker of the Year Award honors individuals who have made a significant, tangible impact within the Marine Corps community. This award recognizes those who have driven meaningful change by identifying challenges and implementing solutions that positively affect the lives of Marine Corps families, spouses, and the broader community. The recipients of this award are innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders who leave a lasting legacy of improvement and progress.


Leaves a lasting legacy of positive change that continues to benefit Marine Corps families.


Eligibility

  • Open to spouses, family members, and other community members who actively support the Marine Corps.
  • Must reside in one of the designated regions: Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, West, Pacific, or Europe.

Criteria

  1. Tangible Impact:
    • Successfully leads initiatives or projects that create measurable, positive change in the Marine Corps community.
    • Identifies specific problems or challenges and implements solutions that address those issues effectively.
    • Demonstrates a long-term, sustainable impact that improves the quality of life for Marine Corps families.
  2. Leadership and Innovation:
    • Exhibits strong leadership by inspiring others to participate in and support change-driven initiatives.
    • Develops and implements innovative approaches to community challenges, offering fresh perspectives and effective solutions.
    • Motivates and engages others in efforts to create meaningful change within the Marine Corps community.
  3. Collaboration and Influence:
    • Works collaboratively with community members, organizations, or Marine Corps leadership to achieve impactful outcomes.
    • Acts as a catalyst for change, encouraging others to contribute and share in the responsibility of making improvements.
    • Builds partnerships or networks that enhance the effectiveness and reach of their initiatives.
  4. Recognition and Legacy:
    • Receives recognition or appreciation from peers, leaders, or organizations for their contributions to creating change.
    • Demonstrates a long-term commitment to fostering progress and improvement within the Marine Corps community.
    • Leaves a lasting legacy of positive change that continues to benefit Marine Corps families.

Nomination Process

  • Nominations can be submitted by any member of the Marine Corps community (spouses, active-duty members, commanders, etc.).
  • Nominators must provide a detailed description of the nominee’s contributions and impact on the community.
  • Supporting materials (e.g., letters of recommendation, testimonials, event photos, etc.) are encouraged to illustrate the nominee’s efforts and achievements.
  • Nomination packages must include the contact information (email, address, and phone number) of both the nominee and the nominator.
  • Nominations for the award are accepted year-round, from July 1 to June 30. Any nomination packages received after June 30 will automatically be considered for the following year’s award cycle.

Selection Process

  • A Selection Committee comprised of distinguished spouses, community members, and senior Marine Corps leaders will review all nominations.
  • The committee will evaluate nominees based on the outlined criteria and select one recipient from each region.

Award Presentation

  • The awards will be presented in October 2025, at the Marine Corps Association Annual Dinner in Washington, DC.
  • Each recipient will receive a physical award and be featured in Behind the Camouflage podcast and associated media outlets.
