EDITORIAL PROFILE

The Marine Corps Gazette has been the professional magazine for U.S. Marines since 1916. It is primarily written by and for Marines covering all aspects of Marine Corps activity. Articles on research and development of military equipment; new weapons systems; theories and concepts of land, sea (amphibious), and aviation (outer space) military operations; foreign military formations; national security issues; current wars of insurgency; humanitarian operations; terrorism; history focusing on Marine Corps involvement in Kosovo, Somalia, the Gulf War, Vietnam, Korea, World War II, and World War I; ongoing operations in Afghanistan and Iraq; leadership; education and training; physical and mental fitness; discipline; ethics; and esprit de corps can be found within the pages of each monthly issue. For the 2007 year, 236 articles and 23 book reviews are indexed from both the magazine and our web site.

MECHANICAL REQUIREMENTS

Publication trim size: 8 1/4” x 10 7/8”

Screen preferred: 120 or 133 (133 preferred).

Kind of printing: Covers sheet offset; run of book web offset.

Method of binding: Saddle stitched.

Bleed specification: Full-size bleed material: 8 3/8” x 11 1/8”. Full-size no bleed material: 8” x 10 5/8.” Two facing pages other than center spreads require two separate negatives at page specifications. Type matter or essential matter not intended to bleed must be kept 1/2” from each side and top and bottom edges of negatives. Publication reserves right to crop up to 3/16” from either side of bleed page material to compensate for variation in trim size.

Reproducibles requirements: Film: Negatives should be right-reading, emulsion side down. Color subjects should be accompanied by a color proof at 100 percent size. Digital: Media must contain document, artwork, fonts, and a proof. Label material for return and list software and version numbers used. Color reproduction is not guaranteed without a color proof, and ads cannot be accepted without one.

High resolution Adobe Acrobat PDF files, with all fonts and CMYK images embedded, are preferred when possilbe. CMYK Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia FreeHand EPS files are acceptable with fonts changed to outlines or paths.

Computer-generated mechanical requirements: Along with a disk containing all supporting files, include a proof of the finished ad at proper size. Color proofs are essential for color accuracy. Indicate program names and version numbers used. Label your material and affix with appropriate information for return.

Other information: Reproduction material destroyed 2 years after use unless other instructions are received.

DIGITAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PRINT ADS

Proofs: To ensure accuracy, a proof at 100% size is necessary for all submissions. The quality
of the published ad may be a reflection of the quality of the proof received. Color reproductionis not guaranteed without a SWOP-calibrated color proof.

Digital: A PDF or single-file EPS with embedded graphics and all fonts converted to outlines
on a CD is preferred. For specifications on how to set up your Adobe Acrobat Distiller Job
Options Settings before saving your PDF file, or to download ready Distiller Job Options Settings
for installation on your computer, please see specifications below.

All color files used must be saved as CMYK process colors. (No spot colors or RGB files)

All files must be 300 resolution and saved in either PDF, EPS or TIFF format. (No JPG files)

Label all material with return information and list software and version numbers used. Due
to file corruption and virus risk, ads sent as e-mail attachments are not encouraged.

For accuracy, a proof is required. (See Proofs Above)

Deadlines: Ads requiring typesetting must be received by the 25th of the month. Camera-ready
material is due by the last business day of the month.

Objects not intended to bleed must be kept within the “live area.” Ads that do not meet specified dimensions may be modified to fit.

Printed and furnished inserts/outserts: Pieces supplied must include 3% spoilage. Printer will need to review based on postal regulations. If the piece is four pages and the full size of the publication, allow 1/8” head, foot, face trim and a 3/8” binding flap at the face on pages 3 and 4. The binding flap will be on the high folio (pages 3 and 4) due to each publication being jogged to the head. Less than full size will need to be reviewed based on request to tip or to bind in. All outserts in a polybag will need to be reviewed for placement in the bag based on co-mailing operations and postal regulations for periodicals-class mail. WEB ADVERTISING

Early in 1999 the Marine Corps Gazette launched its web site to provide another avenue of information for all Marines—active duty, Reserve, retired, and Marine Corps veterans, as well as Marine Corps families.

The Marine Corps Gazette web site offers no cost access, and visitors are not required to register.

MONTHLY ONLINE ADVERTISING RATES/ SPECIFICATIONS

The Marine Corps Gazette web site continues the tradition of the print version. This will  be the on-line professional journal for U. S. Marines covering all aspects of Marine Crops activity.

Readers are principally officers and senior non-commissioned officers of the United States Marine Corps; government officials, foreign and domestic; plus former Marines, families of Marines, and persons interested in the Marine Corps.

Electronic Version
Each month the Marine Corps Gazette will be published cover-to-cover, online to its subscriber base. Readers will have the opportunity to read the issue before it gets to their mailboxes or if they are deployed to an area where it will be difficult to receive mail. Print advertisers will have their ad web site linked to their corporate web address. If an advertiser want a different web address it can be changed for $50 net.

Increase the effectiveness of your ad or announce a last minute offer to the readers with a “Blow-in card” These pop up when a page is opened and add impact to your message. Rate: $450.

Announcement E-mail

Each month an email is sent to our opt-in subscribers who wish to be notified when the issue becomes available. This email sponsorship is available for $750. This also includes one “blow-in card” inside the issue when it is opened by the readers.

Marine Corps Gazette Web Site

The site presents: Front Page Headlines, Up-to-Date News, excerpts from the current Gazette ( the full publication is available on-line to Gazette subscribers), FAQs(frequently asked questions), a site map and the largest discussion board for the USMC.
